Before you ask, no, he is not related to the Maple Leafs’ Nikita Zaitsev. Moving on.
The New Jersey Devils selected D Yegor Zaitsev with the 205th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2017 NHL Entry-Level Draft. He was the second of three straight defensemen selected by the Devils in the seventh round and he was the second Russian. He shoots left, and clocks in at 6′ 0″ and 185 pounds. The 19-year old blueliner has played in the Russian system his entire career and is slated to play for the KHL’s Dynamo Moskva this upcoming season; he played 19 games with them last year.
Here are some of his stats:
These aren’t great numbers but he’s a defenseman. Production doesn’t matter a whole lot.
And that’s about it for him? I haven’t been able to find any draft or prospect profiles, or any footage on YouTube, but I’ll keep looking and update with any new information over the next month or so. I am excited to watch him at development camp.
