The New Jersey Devils (25-28-12) travel to Nationwide Arena to play the Columbus Blue Jackets (41-17-6) to finish out their home-and-home series. Tonight will be the third of four meetings between these two teams this season. The Devils fell to the Jackets in a 3-0 shutout Sunday evening; Sergei Bobrovsky earned his 5th shutout of the season and Boone Jenner, Oliver Bjorkstrand, and Sam Gagner all scored goals. The Devils won the only other meeting held in Columbus, 5-1; Taylor Hall (2), Jacob Josefson, Travis Zajac, and Seth Helgeson all scored goals. The Devils have been outshot both times: 32-30 in their first meeting, 22-20 on Sunday.
Bobrovsky and Cory Schneider have made both starts for their respective teams; I would expect Bobrovsky to definitely be back in net tonight. Keith Kinkaid will get his first start for New Jersey since February 19th, when the team lost to the Islanders. He also got his first assist on Hall’s power play goal during this game.
This is the first of a three-game road trip for New Jersey; they will face Colorado on Thursday and Arizona on Saturday before coming back home to play Winnipeg on Tuesday.
Michael Cammalleri (shoulder), Jacob Josefson (upper body), and Andy Greene (personal) are all out of the lineup again tonight; Greene’s father passed away on Saturday (our thoughts and condolences are with him and his family). They did not travel with the team yesterday but Greene may join the team later in this road trip (possibly Thursday). Damon Severson (upper body) and Miles Wood (lower body) did travel with the team and will return tonight after missing Sunday’s game; they will replace Karl Stollery and Kevin Rooney. Pavel Zacha (concussion) did play on Sunday and will continue to play; I would definitely proceed with caution, given his concussion history. New Jersey’s roster looks more like Albany’s roster these days but it is one of the youngest rosters in the league, which is a good thing (given that they used to be the oldest). The Devils did travel yesterday and did not hold practice so any other lineup specifics are not known and probably won’t be until Coach Hynes speaks to the media.
17 games left until the offseason; puck drops at 7PM.
