Taylor Hall will represent the New Jersey Devils at the 2017 NHL All-Star Game in Los Angeles, January 28-29. This is his second straight year being selected to go to the All-Star Game (he played for the Pacific Division under Captain John Scott last year) and also participated in the fastest skater portion of the 2011 NHL All-Star Game SuperSkills Competition. He has nine goals and 16 assists on the year, despite missing 12 games across the season. He will be playing for the Metropolitan Division this year under Captain Sidney Crosby (who may or may not attend this year’s game with an undisclosed injury), alongside Evgeni Malkin (PIT), Alex Ovechkin (WSH), Wayne Simmonds (PHI), John Tavares (NYI), Justin Faulk (CAR), Seth Jones (CBJ), Ryan McDonagh (NYR), Sergei Bobrovsky (CBJ), and Braden Holtby (WSH). That’s not bad company.
The NHL All-Star Game will be following the same format as last year. Saturday will be the Skills Competition and Sunday will be the semifinal rounds, in which divisions play against each other in a 3-on-3 format for two ten-minute halves and the winners of both games will play for the championship.
Other NHL All-Stars include:
Atlantic Division: Captain Carey Price (MTL), Nikita Kucherov (TBL), Brad Marchand (BOS), Auston Matthews (TOR), Frans Nielsen (DET), Kyle Okposo (BUF), Vincent Trocheck (FLA), Victor Hedman (TBL), Erik Karlsson (OTT), Shea Weber (MTL), Tuukka Rask (BOS)
Central Division: Captain P.K. Subban (NSH), Patrick Kane (CHI), Patrik Laine (WPG), Nathan MacKinnon (COL), Tyler Seguin (DAL), Vladimir Tarasenko (STL), Jonathan Toews (CHI), Duncan Keith (CHI), Ryan Suter (MIN), Corey Crawford (CHI), Devan Dubnyk (MIN)
Pacific Division: Captain Connor McDavid (EDM), Jeff Carter (LAK), Johnny Gaudreau (CGY), Bo Horvat (VAN), Ryan Kesler (ANA), Joe Pavelski (SJS), Brent Burns (SJS), Drew Doughty (LAK), Cam Fowler (ANA), Martin Jones (SJS), Mike Smith (ARI)
In other Devils news: defensemen Andy Greene (C) (upper body) and Yohann Auvitu (lower body) were both placed on injured reserve, retroactive to 1/3 and 1/7, respectively. Defenseman Karl Stollery and forward Blake Coleman were both called up from Albany (AHL) and will travel with the team to Edmonton. Greene, Vern Fiddler, and Jacob Josefson will make the trip as well but Auvitu and John Moore will not. Stollery will practice with the team today before they fly out to Edmonton. Coleman will meet the team in Edmonton and will practice with them tomorrow. At this rate, the Albany Devils won’t have anyone left by the end of the season. The lines haven’t had much consistency either and doesn’t allow players to gel together and figure out what works and what doesn’t work; there isn’t much time to salvage the season left either. Like Hall said yesterday, this upcoming four-game road trip is make or break for the Devils.
